Understanding Wire Mesh in Concrete

Release time:2026-01-16    Click:27

Wire mesh, often made from steel and available in various forms such as galvanized wire mesh rolls, is used to reinforce concrete. It consists of a grid pattern of intersecting wires that are welded or woven together. The primary function of wire mesh in concrete is to provide tensile strength, reduce cracking, and improve the overall structural integrity of the concrete.

When concrete is poured, it naturally has high compressive strength, meaning it can withstand heavy loads without being crushed. However, its tensile strength—its ability to resist pulling apart or cracking—is relatively low. This is where wire mesh comes into play. By embedding wire mesh within the concrete, you create a composite material that is much stronger and more resilient than concrete alone.
